Houston, Jun 15 (V7N)- The historic 7-1 scoreline is back. Twelve years after their legendary destruction of Brazil in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals, Germany recreated the exact same scoreboard to kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign, thrashing tournament debutants Curacao 7-1 at the Houston Stadium on Sunday (June 14).

For football fans in Bangladesh, where the infamous "seven-up" phrase has long been used to banter Brazil fans about that fateful night in Belo Horizonte, Germany's performance served as a massive reminder. Back in 2014, Toni Kroos and André Schürrle both scored braces to seal the 7-1 rout. This time around in the USA, it was Kai Havertz who netted a double, leading a ruthless attack that saw five other German players get on the scoresheet.

The four-time world champions took the lead just six minutes into the match through Felix Nmecha, but Curacao briefly shocked the world by equalizing via Livano Comenencia in the 20th minute.

Any hopes of a historic upset were quickly extinguished. Nico Schlotterbeck restored Germany’s lead with a header in the 38th minute, and Havertz converted a penalty deep in first-half stoppage time to put Joshua Kimmich’s side up 3-1 at the break.

The second half was a complete validation of Germany’s attacking powerhouse. Jamal Musiala struck instantly in the 46th minute, followed by perfectly spaced goals in the 67th, 77th, and 87th minutes from Nathaniel Brown, substitute Deniz Undav, and Havertz to wrap up the dominant 7-1 victory.

With three points and a massive goal-difference advantage in Group E, the German giants are already looking forward. Die Mannschaft will take the field for their second group stage match against the Ivory Coast next Saturday (June 20). For fans tuning in from Bangladesh, the highly anticipated clash will kick off at 2:00 PM BST.
