Dhaka, June 26 (V7N) — Two more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 38 so far this year. Of these, 15 fatalities have occurred in June alone, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday morning.
In the same 24-hour period, 195 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. Barisal Division reported the highest number of new admissions with 74 cases, followed by Dhaka Metropolitan Area with 60, and the rest of Dhaka Division with 30. Rajshahi Division recorded 18 new cases, Chattogram 8, Sylhet 3, and Mymensingh 2. No new dengue cases were reported from Rangpur and Khulna Divisions.
As of now, 1,080 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide. Among them, 310 are hospitalized in Dhaka city, while 770 are being treated in medical facilities across other parts of the country.
Health officials continue to warn that the number of dengue cases may rise further with the arrival of the monsoon season, which creates ideal breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes. The DGHS has urged local authorities to step up public awareness campaigns and mosquito control efforts, especially in high-risk urban and semi-urban areas.
