Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N) - Medical services at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have come to a standstill as doctors announced a strike following an assault and vandalism incident inside the hospital premises. Patients have been left in distress as various departments ceased operations starting Sunday morning, with only emergency services remaining functional.

The strike comes in response to an incident on Saturday where three doctors from the neurosurgery department were assaulted. CCTV footage helped identify the attackers, prompting the doctors to issue an ultimatum demanding the arrest of those responsible. They warned that they would go on strike if the perpetrators were not apprehended within 24 hours.

Despite the ultimatum, no arrests were made, leading the doctors to follow through on their strike threat. Initially called by intern doctors, the strike quickly gained the support of other doctors across the hospital, resulting in a shutdown of medical services across all departments, including both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The strike has caused significant disruption, with patients unable to access routine medical care and services, exacerbating their suffering. Hospital management and authorities have yet to respond to the strike or address the doctors' demands for increased security and justice following the assault incident. 

Patients and their families are urging for a swift resolution to the standoff, as the halt in medical services continues to impact the hospital's ability to provide critical care.
