Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent candidate Wasim Qadir has joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He won the NA-121 seat in Lahore's National Assembly in Thursday's polls.

He made this announcement in a video released by PML-N. Pakistani media Geo News reported this news.

In the released video, Qadir was seen with leaders of Nawaz Sharif's party. Among them was the main organizer Maryam Nawaz. In the video, he said, 'Back home'.

Qadir defeated Sheikh Rohail Asghar of PML-N by a margin of 8,000 votes in this seat of Lahore. His defection is a big blow to PTI. Meanwhile, the PML-N and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) have announced that they will try to field more independent candidates to form the government.

Former PTI leader Qadir was seen saying in the video, I am Wasim Qadir. I was the general secretary of PTI, Lahore. I returned to my room.

Qadir is the first elected National Assembly member to switch sides after this election. He said, I have joined Muslim League again for the development of my constituency and people.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's party won 79 seats in the elections. The party emerged as the single largest party despite not getting the majority to form the government. Because the supporters of rival Imran Khan have elected as independent candidates.

However, both PTI and PML-N claimed victory after the results were announced.
