New Delhi, May 07 (V7N) – India has claimed that its recent missile strikes on Pakistan were carried out in response to Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism, including involvement in the Pahelgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defence jointly held a press conference on Wednesday to defend the strikes as a "precision attack" on terrorist training camps and militant bases, with minimal damage to surrounding areas. The briefing was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri, alongside military officials including Colonel Sophia Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Air Force.
According to Vikram Mishri, the Resistance Front (TRF), which claimed responsibility for the deadly attack in Pahelgam on April 22, and the pictures circulated on social media linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba – a militant group based in Pakistan – provide clear evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the attack.
Mishri emphasized that India’s missile strikes targeted terrorist installations on Pakistani soil, aiming to reduce collateral damage to nearby civilian areas. The Indian officials also displayed footage during the briefing to illustrate how the operation was carried out, which lasted for 25 minutes on Tuesday night.
In contrast to Pakistan's claims of shooting down several Indian aircraft, India did not respond to questions regarding any potential losses on their side or confirm any downed aircraft. The press briefing was closed to questions, with Indian officials choosing not to elaborate on the military specifics or respond to Pakistan’s counterclaims.
