Krkonoše Mountains, May 21 (V7N) — Two mountain climbers exploring the remote Krkonoše Mountains in northeastern Czech Republic stumbled upon a mysterious aluminum box containing a priceless treasure.
Upon opening the box, they found 10 gold bracelets, a powder compact, a comb, and a collection of 598 gold coins. The treasure is estimated to be worth 43.6 million Bangladeshi taka at current exchange rates.
Local archaeologist Miroslav Novak said the climbers, wishing to remain anonymous, entrusted the treasure to the East Bohemian Museum in nearby Hradec Králové for safekeeping and further study.
Among the coins is a gold piece dated 1921, suggesting the treasure could be about 100 years old. The museum’s numismatist has begun examining the collection to determine its origin.
The Krkonoše Mountains are a popular tourist destination, but the discovery of such a hidden trove has raised speculation. Experts suggest the treasure might have belonged to a wealthy family or possibly a terrorist group that concealed it long ago.
The find has sparked renewed interest among local historians and archaeologists, but the mystery behind who hid the treasure and why remains unsolved.
