Los Angeles, June 11 (V7N) — Police have confirmed that mass arrests are taking place in Los Angeles following the imposition of a curfew in the wake of widespread anti-immigration protests.

According to reports from the BBC and CNN, law enforcement agencies began detaining large groups of demonstrators after the curfew came into effect on Tuesday night. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced on social media platform X that officers were actively confronting immigrant groups involved in the protests and conducting mass arrests.

The curfew, imposed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, is in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and covers about a square mile of the city’s downtown area. The measure was introduced to prevent vandalism and looting as protests intensified against the Trump administration’s anti-immigration campaign in California.

Authorities had earlier deployed the National Guard and Marines to help maintain order, but demonstrations have continued to grow, spreading beyond Los Angeles to other major cities across the United States.
