Tehran, July 10 (V7N) – The Russian Embassy in Tehran has reopened its consular services to the public, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday (July 10). The move comes as the security situation in Iran stabilizes, following a temporary ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel.

Consular services had been suspended since June 15, after Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and residential areas. The deadly attacks killed over 1,000 people, including senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, prompting heightened security alerts and diplomatic fallout.

At a press briefing in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated, "Some stability has returned to the situation in the region. The consular department of the Russian Embassy in Tehran is already operating normally."

However, Zakharova also urged Russian citizens to remain cautious when traveling to Iran, despite the reopening.

Russia, a strategic ally of Iran, has increased its military and economic cooperation with Tehran in recent years, particularly since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Nonetheless, the Kremlin adopted a measured stance during the recent Iran-Israel conflict, refraining from strong condemnation of Israel’s actions — a move analysts attribute to Moscow’s desire to balance relations with both Tehran and Tel Aviv.

The reopening of the embassy signals a return to diplomatic normalcy but highlights the fragile and volatile nature of the Middle East’s geopolitical landscape.
