Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump’s military operation in Venezuela has fueled speculation about which countries in the Western Hemisphere could be the next focus of Washington’s intervention. Analysts say the operation reflects the United States’ continued pursuit of influence in the region.
Following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Trump issued warnings to neighboring countries. Colombia is seen as a potential focus due to its strategic location and its President Gustavo Petro receiving explicit attention from the US.
Trump has also repeatedly criticized Cuba, labeling it a “failed state” and predicting collapse even without US military intervention. Similarly, Mexico could face pressure, with Trump questioning President Claudia Sheinbaum’s ability to control drug cartels and maintain national security.
Some analysts suggest that the operation in Venezuela also serves as an indirect message to Iran, signaling potential US readiness for intervention should political unrest escalate there.
Experts warn that Trump’s approach in Venezuela, carried out in defiance of international law, may set a precedent for similar unilateral military actions against other nations in the region.
