Washington, Jan 20 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has released a screenshot of a private message allegedly sent by French President Emmanuel Macron, in which the French leader questioned Washington’s position on the Greenland issue. US media outlet CNN reported the development on Tuesday (January 20).

Trump shared the screenshot on his social media platform Truth Social, captioning it: “A note from French President Emmanuel Macron.”
The partially visible message reads: “My friend Trump, we completely agree on the Syria issue. We can do something big with Iran. But I don't understand what you are doing with Greenland.”

The post comes amid growing transatlantic tensions over Trump’s repeated remarks regarding Greenland and his threat to impose tariffs related to the issue.

Recently, President Macron described Trump’s tariff threats over Greenland as “unacceptable.” He also rejected Trump’s invitation for France to join a proposed ‘Board of Peace’ intended to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza.

Responding to Macron’s refusal, Trump made a sharp remark, saying, “Nobody wants him.” He also raised the possibility of imposing heavy tariffs on French wine, further escalating tensions between Washington and Paris.

Analysts say the public release of the private message highlights deepening strains in US-European relations, particularly over issues of sovereignty, trade, and geopolitical strategy.
