Tehran, Mar 20 (V7N) — While most Middle Eastern countries are observing Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, Iran will celebrate the festival on Saturday, March 21, after the Shawwal moon was not sighted.
The announcement was confirmed by state television, citing the office of the Supreme Leader. Authorities said that since the moon of Shawwal was not visible on Thursday, the holy month of Ramadan will complete 30 days. Accordingly, Friday will be observed as the last day of Ramadan, with Eid celebrations taking place the following day.
Meanwhile, several Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan, are also expected to celebrate Eid on Saturday, depending on local moon sightings.
The variation in Eid dates reflects regional differences in moon sighting practices across the Muslim world.
