Tehran, Apr 21 (V7N) — Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that Iran will not engage in any negotiations conducted under threat, amid rising tensions with the United States.
“Negotiations must not be under pressure”
In a post on social media, Ghalibaf said that US President Donald Trump is attempting to turn the negotiating table into a “surrender table” or provoke a new conflict through sanctions and ceasefire violations.
He added clearly: “We do not accept any talks under threat.”
Rising tensions over maritime and ceasefire issues
The statement comes as diplomatic friction continues between Washington and Tehran over allegations of ceasefire violations and maritime disputes. Tensions escalated further following the reported seizure of an Iranian-flagged vessel and ongoing disagreements over the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
Diplomatic activity continues
Meanwhile, reports from CNN suggest that a second round of talks between Israel and Lebanon may take place on Thursday.
In parallel, US Vice President J. D. Vance may depart for Pakistan today, accompanied by senior US officials, for discussions related to the Iran conflict.
Sources say a new round of US–Iran talks is planned for Wednesday in Islamabad, though uncertainty remains due to sharply differing positions between the two sides. The White House has not officially confirmed the schedule.
Ceasefire deadline approaching
The ceasefire period announced by President Trump is set to expire on Wednesday evening. Trump has indicated that extending the ceasefire is unlikely without a concrete agreement, increasing pressure on all parties ahead of the expected talks.
