Washington, Apr 22 (V7N) — The United States has used a substantial portion of its advanced missile stockpiles during the recent conflict with Iran, according to a report cited by The Hill.
Major depletion of key systems
Citing analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the report states that:
-
Around half of the Patriot missile stockpile has been used
-
More than 50% of THAAD missile defense systems have been expended
-
Over 45% of Precision Strike missiles have been fired
In addition, stockpiles of Tomahawk, JASSM, SM-3, and SM-6 missiles have also been significantly reduced.
Impact of sustained operations
CSIS attributed the depletion to heavy use of these systems during the military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury. The report estimates it could take one to four years to fully rebuild these reserves.
Strategic concerns
The analysis warns that the US already faced limitations in its stockpile for a potential large-scale conflict with China. The recent war has further strained those reserves.
However, the report notes that the US still retains sufficient capability to:
-
Continue operations against Iran
-
Maintain defensive systems
But it may face challenges in sustaining a prolonged or large-scale conflict against a major global rival.
Pentagon response
Responding to the report, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the US military remains fully capable of carrying out operations wherever directed by the president, emphasizing its global strength and readiness.
