Tehran, Apr 23 (V7N) — Iranian President Masoud Pajhwok has said that while Tehran remains open to diplomacy, recent actions by the United States are undermining efforts to reach a peaceful resolution.
Iran’s position on talks
In an online statement on Wednesday, Pajhwok said Iran is committed to pursuing a diplomatic solution, but pointed to key obstacles, including:
-
Alleged US breach of commitments
-
Ongoing naval blockade
-
Continued threats and pressure
He warned that these actions are damaging the environment for meaningful negotiations.
Trust deficit highlighted
The Iranian president also accused Washington of inconsistency, saying there is a gap between US statements and actions, which is deepening mistrust between the two sides.
Missed talks in Islamabad
Iran did not participate in the second round of peace talks held in Islamabad ahead of the ceasefire deadline.
However, Pakistan, acting as a mediator, said it continues efforts to bring both parties back to the negotiating table.
Backchannel diplomacy ongoing
Despite public tensions, sources indicate that both Iran and the US are maintaining behind-the-scenes communication to revive negotiations.
Ceasefire extension
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced a last-minute extension of the ceasefire after the first round of talks ended without agreement.
Outlook
The situation remains fragile, with diplomacy continuing quietly even as public rhetoric between the two sides remains tense.
