Washington, May 23 (V7N) – Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation as the United States Director of National Intelligence, stating she will step down at the end of June.

Gabbard confirmed her decision on Friday through a resignation letter shared on social media. She said she is leaving the post to support her husband, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Her resignation will take effect on June 30.

The move comes during the second term of US President Donald Trump, making her the fourth senior official to leave the administration’s cabinet in recent months.

Following her announcement, Trump said that his deputy, Aaron Lucas, will serve as acting Director of National Intelligence until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who later aligned closely with Trump, was appointed last year to oversee coordination of 18 US intelligence agencies.

Reports also suggest there had been internal disagreements over intelligence assessments and recent US military decisions related to Iran, though no official confirmation has been provided.

Her resignation marks another major shift within the US national security leadership at a politically sensitive time.
