Washington, Jun 19 (V7N) – The White House has canceled plans for US Vice President JD Vance to travel to Switzerland for the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, citing unresolved issues surrounding the next phase of negotiations.

According to a White House spokesperson, preparations for upcoming technical-level talks are still ongoing, and although the US delegation remains ready to travel, the schedule for the discussions has not yet been finalized.

“The Vice President is not traveling to Switzerland tonight at this time,” the spokesperson said. “As soon as we have confirmed information regarding the next steps, we will share it.”

Vance had been expected to travel to Switzerland on Friday to attend the formal signing ceremony of the memorandum. Earlier on Thursday, he said he hoped to be present for the signing in person but acknowledged that the travel plans remained uncertain.

The Vice President also confirmed that technical-level negotiations aimed at finalizing the broader agreement are expected to begin later this week. He indicated that he intends to lead the US negotiating team during the upcoming discussions.

The development comes as Washington and Tehran continue efforts to advance a framework agreement designed to ease tensions and establish a roadmap for future diplomatic engagement.

Officials from both sides are expected to remain in contact as work continues to finalize the details of the next round of talks.
