Ankara, Jul 08 (V7N)- U.S. President Donald Trump has said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that laid the groundwork for a ceasefire with Iran is effectively over, expressing deep skepticism about any future negotiations with Tehran.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the NATO summit on Wednesday, Trump sharply criticized Iran's leadership and questioned the value of continued diplomatic engagement, according to the BBC.
"I don't want to have anything to do with them anymore. They are vile, sick people. Their leadership is also sick. They are cruel and violent," Trump said.
The U.S. president also reiterated his concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions.
"If they had nuclear weapons, they would use them. In my view, the matter is over," he said.
Referring to the U.S. negotiating team, Trump indicated that while American officials remain in contact with their Iranian counterparts, he sees little value in further dialogue.
"I will talk to our negotiators. They want to talk, they are good people. But they have to come back to me. For me, talking to them is a waste of time," he said.
When asked whether negotiations with Iran could resume, Trump responded that he was unconcerned about the prospect of renewed talks.
"I don't care. They can talk. But I think they are just wasting time. They are a bunch of liars," he said.
Trump's remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges and growing uncertainty over the future of diplomatic efforts between the two countries. His comments suggest the prospects for reviving ceasefire-related negotiations have become increasingly uncertain.
