West Palm Beach, Jul 10 (V7N)- Palm Beach International Airport in the U.S. state of Florida has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, becoming the first international airport in the country's history to bear the name of a sitting U.S. president.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the new name took effect on July 9 following the completion of the required federal approval process. Airport officials said signage, branding and public information materials will be updated in phases over the coming weeks.
As part of the transition, the airport's FAA location identifier has changed from PBI to DJT, while the International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is scheduled to change on August 18. During the transition period, passengers may continue to see the existing PBI code alongside the new designation on some airline booking platforms and airport systems.
The airport serves numerous domestic and international carriers, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Officials said the renaming will not affect airport operations or ownership.
The name change follows legislation signed earlier this year by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with the total rebranding project expected to cost approximately $5.5 million, funded jointly by the State of Florida and the airport authority.
In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump thanked the people of Palm Beach for the honor, saying he was "very honored" and expressing confidence that the airport would become "one of the greatest and most spectacular airports in the world."
