Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gir, has sparked controversy for his social media post regarding the alleged attack on Iran. While Israel has not officially confirmed the attack, Ben-Gir's post on social media has drawn criticism for undermining the government's stance. AFP reported on Friday that the member of Israel's cabinet faced backlash for his remarks.
Critics accuse Ben-Gir of jeopardizing Israel's strategy against Iran with his insensitive comments. Despite reports of an explosion in Isfahan province, Iranian media deny any external involvement, attributing the incident to internal factors.
Although Tehran claimed to have shot down three drones with its air defense system, it denies involvement from Israel or any other foreign entity, alleging control by internal "infiltrators."
Earlier reports from US media, citing officials, suggested Israel's retaliatory missile attack on Iran. However, AFP's attempts to obtain comment from Israeli military or government officials remained unanswered.
Ben-Gir's social media post, featuring a Hebrew slur implying weakness, stirred a wave of criticism on social media and in the press. Yair Lapid, leader of the Israeli opposition, condemned Ben-Gir's actions, stating that no minister had ever caused such damage to the country's security, image, and international standing.
Geopolitical podcast host and academic, Shail Ben-Efraim, remarked that Ben-Gir's post both validated and ridiculed Israel's campaign against Iran.
Meanwhile, Tali Gotliv, a lawmaker from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, celebrated the explosion in Iran, describing it as a triumph for Israel.
The recent exchange of hostilities between Israel and Iran has heightened tensions in the region. Following Iran's retaliation against Israeli territory with 300 drones and missiles, Israel had threatened to respond to Iran's missile and drone strikes. The situation remains volatile as both countries navigate the delicate balance of power in the Middle East.
