On Monday, members of the UN Security Council observed a minute of silence in memory of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage, who tragically perished in a helicopter crash. This gesture was met with an angry reaction from Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan.

During the Security Council session, Mozambique's ambassador to the UN, Pedro Commissario Afonso, who holds the presidency of the Security Council for May, requested members to stand and observe a minute of silence in honor of President Raisi and his companions. This call was heeded by all members present, including representatives from the United States.

Israel's ambassador, Gilad Erdan, responded furiously to the observance. In a video message posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Erdan criticized the Security Council's action, describing it as a "shameful incident." He stated, "You saw it right. The UN Security Council observed a minute's silence in memory of Iran's genocidal President Raisi. What a shame!" Erdan further commented that the Security Council had become a threat to world peace and security, expressing his increasing discontent with the UN's actions over the past few months.

The tragic helicopter crash occurred around noon on Sunday in the mountainous Varzagan area of Iran's East Azerbaijan province. The crash claimed the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and seven other passengers. The Iranian government has confirmed the deaths of all individuals on board.
