Israel faces intense international criticism after airstrikes in the southern city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people, predominantly civilians. The strikes targeted a refugee shelter on Sunday night, leading to significant casualties and widespread condemnation.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Aid and Emergency Relief, Martin Griffiths, condemned the Israeli airstrikes, particularly highlighting the tragic loss of life among women and children. In a message on social media platform X, Griffiths stated, "Another grim update from Gaza. Israeli airstrikes in Rafah last night killed scores of people, including women and children burned alive."

Griffiths also pointed out the severe challenges in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. He noted that ongoing obstructions and active fighting are preventing necessary supplies from reaching those in need through the Kerem Shalom crossing. "We are still unable to receive products from Kerem Shalom at the level we need due to obstruction and active fighting," he said.

Calling for immediate action, Griffiths emphasized the need to protect civilians and ensure their safety, asserting that the current impunity cannot continue. "Protect civilians. Let them find safety. Let them get help," he urged.

This attack adds to the growing international outcry against the Israeli military operations in Gaza, with numerous organizations and countries calling for an end to the violence and better protection for civilians caught in the conflict.
