Rajasthan, (12 June 2024) – An American woman named Cherish has fallen victim to a substantial fraud after purchasing jewelry from a businessman in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Hindustan Times reported this incident on Tuesday, June 11, shedding light on the alleged scam involving jewelry worth Rs 300 being sold for a staggering Rs 6 crore.

According to the report, Cherish purchased the jewelry from Jahuri Bazar in Jaipur, believing it to be authentic. However, upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the jewelry, purportedly made of silver, was merely coated with gold.

Last April, Cherish showcased the jewelry at a fair in the United States, only to discover later that it was counterfeit. In response, Cherish traveled to India to confront the jeweler, identified as Gaurav Soni, regarding the deceptive transaction. Despite Cherish's allegations, Gaurav denied any wrongdoing or involvement in the fraudulent scheme.

Following the revelation of the scam, Cherish lodged a formal complaint with the local police and sought assistance from the US Embassy in India. The embassy has exerted pressure on Jaipur police to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.

Jaipur police revealed that both Gaurav Soni and his father, Rajendra Soni, absconded as soon as the allegations surfaced. Despite their attempts to evade capture, law enforcement agencies have initiated a concerted effort to apprehend the accused duo. A specialized task force has been deployed to track down the perpetrators and hold them accountable for their fraudulent activities.
