Gaza Strip, (12 June 2024) – The ongoing negotiations and demands for revisions highlight the complexities and challenges in achieving a ceasefire in the region. As diplomatic efforts continue, the international community remains attentive to the evolving situation.

Hamas has requested further changes to the cease-fire proposal put forward by the United States for Gaza, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The Qatari-based news outlet Al Jazeera reported this development on Wednesday (June 12).

In a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Blinken stated that not all the modifications demanded by Hamas can be accommodated. He acknowledged that some issues are currently under review.

Mediators from Kuwait and Egypt have indicated that efforts to secure a cease-fire agreement in Gaza are ongoing. President Biden presented a three-step proposal on May 31, which was described as a roadmap for a lasting ceasefire. Initially, it was reported that Israel had approved the proposal. However, while Hamas expressed initial agreement, they later claimed that Tel Aviv had introduced several amendments to Biden's plan.
