Eilat, July 1 2024 — The Israeli port city of Eilat, located on the shores of the Red Sea, has reportedly been targeted by drone strikes carried out by the Islamic Resistance group from Iraq. The attacks, which occurred in early June, aimed at "critical targets" within the city, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

The Islamic Resistance claimed responsibility for these strikes, asserting that they targeted key facilities in Eilat. This group has previously conducted drone attacks on significant Israeli targets, indicating a pattern of such operations. The organization has stated its intent to target and destroy important Israeli installations, especially following Israeli military actions in Gaza.

This escalation follows a series of retaliatory attacks between Israel and various Iran-backed groups. Last Sunday, the Lebanon-based Hezbollah organization announced that it had attacked a military base in northern Israel using an armed drone. This action was in response to the killing of a Hezbollah commander.

The conflict in Gaza began on October 7 when the Palestinian independence organization Hamas launched a sudden assault across the Israeli border. Since then, Israel has conducted a prolonged military operation in Gaza, which has now extended for about nine months. Throughout this period, daily reports have emerged of clashes between Israeli forces and Iran-backed groups, including Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as attacks from organizations in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iran.

Hezbollah recently released video footage showcasing critical and sensitive installations of the Israeli forces. This release coincides with threats from the Israeli government of an all-out war against Hezbollah, further intensifying the regional tensions.
