As a close ally and partner of Bangladesh, India has stated that it wishes to see "peaceful elections" in the country, which will hold its 12th national election on January 7, 2024.

"We will continue to support Bangladesh's vision of building a stable, peaceful, and progressive nation," said Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson at the Ministry of External Affairs, in a weekly briefing in New Delhi on Friday December 29.

He stated that their attitude has remained consistent and that the election is a local affair for Bangladesh and that the people of Bangladesh must select their own future.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has stated that the country's democratic tendency should be maintained.

"We do not support terrorism." These are the objectives of Western countries. "We're on their side," he declared.

He stated that they want to show that Bangladesh is capable of holding a free, fair, and acceptable election. "We are the only country where people sacrificed their lives for democracy."
