Tel Aviv, July 29— The Israeli security cabinet has granted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government the authority to respond to the recent rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The decision allows Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to determine the method and timing of the response.

The approval came after a security cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv, where discussions were held on the appropriate course of action following the attack on Sunday. Both Israel and the United States have attributed the attack to the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, although Hezbollah has denied any involvement.

Netanyahu's office released a statement after the meeting, confirming that the cabinet had given the prime minister and defense minister the discretion to decide on the response. The statement suggested a stronger retaliation might be imminent.

The rocket attack targeted Majdal Shams on Saturday, an incident for which Hezbollah has also denied responsibility. Despite this denial, the White House issued a statement blaming Hezbollah for the attack, asserting that the rocket used belonged to the group and was launched from an area under its control.

The British news agency Reuters reported on these developments, indicating that the situation remains tense as Israel prepares its next move in response to the attack.
