Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, had a gas explosion that resulted in a fire that left two people dead and over 200 injured, according to police on Friday.
A gas refilling business in Nairobi's Embakasi neighborhood suffered an explosion shortly before midnight that seriously destroyed their structure, according to a government spokesman Isaac Mwaura on social networking platform X.
According to a statement he released, the ensuing fire destroyed numerous cars as well as residential and business buildings before consuming a nearby textile and garment facility.
In the statement, Mwaura added that 222 people were hurt in the event and that "as a result, two fellow Kenyans have regrettably lost their lives while being attended to at the Nairobi West Hospital."
The Kenyan Red Cross said that 271 patients had been admitted to hospitals in Nairobi by various emergency units.
