Tehran, August 23 — Abbas Araqchi, Iran's newly appointed Foreign Minister, has expressed Iran's interest in "managing" tensions with the United States and European Union countries, provided that these nations cease their hostilities toward Tehran. Araqchi made these remarks in an interview with Japan's Kyodo News on Thursday, a day after receiving a confidence vote from the Iranian parliament.

Araqchi emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would work to reduce tensions with the United States and rebuild relations with European countries to lift Western sanctions on Iran's economy and normalize trade with the international community. However, he stressed that such efforts would be contingent on the West stopping its hostilities and reinstating the 2015 nuclear deal.

On Wednesday, Iran's National Parliament, the Majlis, approved the new cabinet, with members elected by MPs through voting. Araqchi, who played a significant role in the nuclear negotiations with six world powers during the Hassan Rouhani administration, was appointed to the crucial position of Foreign Minister.

In his address to the Parliament following his appointment, Araqchi reiterated the importance of lifting sanctions on Iran and pledged to prioritize discussions on this issue to improve Iran's economic relations with the international community.
