Lucknow, Sep 08 (V7N)— A three-storey building collapsed in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar area on Saturday afternoon, leaving at least eight people dead and 28 others injured. Rescue operations are ongoing, with fears that the number of casualties may rise, according to local authorities.

The building, which housed multiple godowns and motor workshops, came crashing down around 4:45 PM, as reported by Indian media outlet *NDTV*. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are working to clear the debris and search for potential survivors.

A senior district administration official confirmed that efforts are being made to ensure no one remains trapped under the rubble. The building, which was constructed approximately four years ago, was undergoing additional construction work at the time of the collapse. Several workers were inside the building's ground floor when the structure gave way.

Eyewitness and survivor Akash Singh, who worked in the medical godown on the second floor, recounted that a pillar of the building had developed a crack shortly before the collapse. "We noticed the crack and rushed to the ground floor as it was raining. Moments later, the entire building collapsed on top of us," Singh said.

The injured have been taken to various hospitals in the area, while authorities are investigating the cause of the structural failure.
