Washington, Sep 09 (V7N) - As the first U.S. presidential debate approaches, opinions vary on the candidates: some view Kamala Harris as an inexperienced debater who struggles with communication, while others believe she is a well-prepared contender ready to take down her rival, Donald Trump.

A significant television audience is anticipated for Tuesday's debate, where Democrat Harris, the current Vice President, will face off against Republican former President Trump. Both candidates have emphasized the importance of this election as a critical moment in modern history.

AFP has gathered views from American voters on the campaign trail. Unsurprisingly, many supporters of each candidate are confident in their chosen representative’s ability to succeed in the debate.

Flo Eberhart, a 73-year-old retiree from Pennsylvania, expressed confidence in Trump’s debating skills. She criticized Harris, claiming she lacks understanding and effective communication. Despite her four-year hiatus from high-stakes debates, Harris, a seasoned debater with a history of sharp critiques, is expected to perform well.

In contrast, Jamila Scales, a young Harris supporter from Nashua, New Hampshire, anticipates Harris will excel in the debate. She believes Harris will decisively challenge Trump and is excited about the event.

Trump's aggressive debate style is well-known, but supporter Jimmy Taggart suggested Trump could benefit from a more passive approach, allowing Harris’s own weaknesses to become apparent.

Kate Thompson, a rally attendee from New Hampshire, cautioned against underestimating Harris. She believes Harris, a former prosecutor, will be well-prepared and able to stand her ground against Trump’s tactics.

Kirk McKendree, a former state trooper from Altoona, Pennsylvania, hopes Trump will focus on contrasting current conditions with those before Biden’s presidency, highlighting improvements made under his previous administration. While he sees Harris as energetic, he does not view her as a major threat.
