Iran Unveils New Version of Shahed Drone and Jihad Ballistic Missile

Tehran, Sep 23 (V7N) — Iran has introduced a new version of its Shahed drone, widely known for its use in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, during a military parade on the opening day of its Special Defense Week, commemorating the Iran-Iraq war. The new Shahed-136B drone and the ballistic missile named 'Jihad' were showcased by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), signalling an enhancement in the nation's military capabilities.

Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian, who attended the inauguration, claimed that these advancements reflect Iran's ability to defend itself and its neighbors while sending a stern message to Israel. "Today, we can declare in the world’s courts that we are capable of safeguarding our country and working in solidarity with other Middle Eastern nations to maintain peace," he said, stressing the need for unity against Israel's actions in Gaza.

The Shahed-136B, equipped with a turbojet engine, boasts a range of 2,500 kilometers, making it a formidable upgrade from its previous versions. Meanwhile, the newly revealed Jihad missile, powered by solid fuel, is capable of striking targets up to 1,000 kilometers away, further enhancing Iran’s long-range strike capabilities.

Both the drone and missile were developed by the IRGC’s Aerospace Force, emphasizing Iran's growing focus on domestic military innovation. The unveiling comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, underlining Iran's strategic push to strengthen its military posture.
