New York, Sep 25 (V7N) Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has expressed a desire to strengthen ties with Bangladesh, calling for a "new page" in relations between the two countries. She emphasized that Italy considers Bangladesh a friend during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

At the meeting, Prof. Yunus provided a brief overview of the recent student-led mass uprising in Bangladesh, highlighting the potential it holds for pressing "the reset button" on the nation's future.

Prime Minister Meloni assured Prof. Yunus that Italy would support Bangladesh’s interim government in implementing critical reforms. "Absolutely, you can count on us," she said, according to a statement from the chief adviser's press office.

Prof. Yunus also discussed the importance of formalizing migration from Bangladesh to Italy, encouraging legal channels for Bangladeshi workers to reduce dangerous illegal migration practices. In response, Meloni agreed, suggesting that both nations collaborate on preventing irregular migration and offering training for workers preparing to enter the Italian job market.
