New York, Sep 26 (V7N) - The leaders of Bangladesh and Pakistan have agreed on the necessity of revitalizing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Additionally, Pakistan believes that it is time for the two nations to open a "new chapter" in their relations by expanding cooperation in various sectors.
Earlier today, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. During this meeting, both leaders underscored the importance of reviving SAARC as the primary platform for regional collaboration in South Asia.
The discussion between the two leaders took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Both leaders highlighted the urgency of rejuvenating bilateral cooperation between their nations.
Professor Yunus stated that restoring SAARC would be an excellent starting point, emphasizing that Pakistan’s support is crucial.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed his commitment to backing this initiative and proposed that the nations take incremental steps towards revitalizing the regional forum.
Sharif further suggested that Bangladesh and Pakistan should begin a "new chapter" in their relations by strengthening cooperation across various sectors. He stressed, "It is vital to reinvigorate our relationship."
Sharif also conveyed Pakistan’s interest in investing in Bangladesh’s textile and leather industries.
Professor Yunus recommended the introduction of youth exchange programs between the two nations.
Additionally, the two sides discussed resuming talks at the foreign secretary level and reactivating the joint commission between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Foreign Affairs Adviser Tawhid Hossain was also present during the discussions.
