New York, Sep 26 (V7N) Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the need for a radical shift in the global approach to combating climate change, calling for a focus on achieving net-zero carbon emissions and addressing extreme resource inequality.

Prof. Yunus made these remarks during a day-long event titled "Climate Forward," organized by The New York Times on Wednesday. The event, broadcast live from the New York Times Studios, brought together innovators, activists, scientists, and policymakers to discuss actions required to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Alongside other prominent speakers, including anthropologist Jane Goodall, Prof. Yunus highlighted the unique challenges faced by nations like Bangladesh, which are disproportionately affected by climate change.

In response to a question about the responsibility of wealthy nations towards countries like Bangladesh, Yunus stressed that climate action must prioritize net-zero emissions and the reduction of global inequality. "Why should we bear the burden of destruction that you have imposed on us?" he asked, calling for urgent action from developed nations to address the consequences of their environmental impact.
