River erosion in Bogra’s Sariakandi upazila has intensified due to rising water levels in the Jamuna River from continuous rain and upstream water flow. The erosion threatens low-lying areas, with strong currents accelerating the damage.
BWDB officials promised quick action to prevent further erosion. The river's water level rose by 60 cm in the last 24 hours, now flowing 4.83 cm below the danger mark. Erosion has been noted from Rouhadah to Ichamara in Kamalpur union, and 50 meters of embankment collapsed in Titur Mor area.
Local residents urge immediate measures to prevent further erosion, which could isolate about 500 families in Kamalpur village. BWDB executive engineer Nazmul Haque said riverbank protection work is ongoing, with new measures planned for areas with recent landslides.
