Oct 17, V7N- Gary Neville has expressed concerns about the FA's decision to appoint German coach Thomas Tuchel as England's national team manager, raising questions about the state of English coaching. Tuchel, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager, becomes the first German and the third foreigner to lead the England team, following Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

While Neville acknowledged Tuchel as perhaps the best coach available, he questioned whether this appointment aligns with the FA’s vision of developing English coaches. He highlighted the success of English managers like Eddie Howe and Graham Potter, both of whom were linked to the role, before the FA ultimately selected Tuchel to succeed Gareth Southgate.

Neville believes the appointment challenges the growth of English coaching, even as many supporters, including himself, hope Tuchel can lead England to long-awaited success. Jamie Carragher added that international football is about competing with the best, regardless of nationality, emphasizing that the aim is for the best managers to face off at the highest level.

Tuchel, who will be assisted by English coach Anthony Barry, is set to take charge in January ahead of England’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign. England has come close to major success in recent years, but their last trophy remains the 1966 World Cup.
