SYDNEY, Oct 20, V7N - Five-time Olympic gold medallist Kaylee McKeown has withdrawn from the World Cup swimming series in China to prioritize her mental health. The Australian swimmer, who successfully defended her 100m and 200m backstroke Olympic titles in Paris earlier this year, made the decision after competing on the first day of the event in Shanghai.

McKeown shared her decision via Instagram, emphasizing the importance of mental health and recognizing when to take a break. She expressed gratitude to World Aquatics for the opportunity but explained that it was time for a much-needed rest.

McKeown had a successful run in last year's World Cup series, where she won the overall women's title and set multiple world records. After competing in the Paris Olympics, she continued racing at the Australian short-course championships, where she broke the 100m short-course backstroke world record.

The World Cup series will continue in South Korea and Singapore, but McKeown will be stepping back to focus on her well-being.
