Mirpur, Oct 20 (V7N)- Bangladesh is gearing up to take on South Africa in the first Test of their two-match series at Mirpur on Monday, October 21. However, the match will see the Tigers without their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was ruled out at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

In a pre-match press conference, Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto acknowledged the significant challenge of adjusting the team’s combination in Shakib's absence. “There is a problem in matching the combination as Shakib is not here. I think it will take a few more days,” he said. Shanto highlighted that while there are no immediate alternatives, he believes that player Mirage could potentially fill Shakib's role, especially in the Test format.

Shanto also took a moment to reflect on Shakib's impact on the team, noting, "He is one of the best players in the world." The captain mentioned that a farewell reception for Shakib in white was still pending, emphasizing the player's significance to Bangladesh cricket.

Addressing the concerns following a disappointing series against India, Shanto clarified his earlier remarks about the wickets used for practice, which had been misinterpreted. He asserted, “It is important that the wickets where we practice are good. Wickets will be made according to our strength in international cricket.”

The captain also commented on former coach Hathurusingha amid controversy surrounding his departure, particularly an alleged incident involving player Nasum Ahmed. However, Shanto stated that he was not aware of the details surrounding the situation.

As Bangladesh prepares for this crucial encounter, the team aims to focus on delivering their best performance on home soil, despite the challenges posed by Shakib's absence.
