Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N)- Former footballer and BNP leader Tabith Awal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) after 16 years. The election, held at a hotel in the capital, saw 128 out of 133 councilors casting their votes. Tabith secured a sweeping victory with 123 votes, while his opponent, Dinajpur football coach Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, garnered only 5 votes.

Previously, Tabith Awal served as BFF’s vice-president in 2012 and 2016. Although he faced a close defeat in the 2020 re-election for vice-president, he has now emerged victorious in his presidential bid, marking a new era for Bangladesh’s football governing body.

Tabith’s presidency is historic in several ways. He becomes the third elected president in BFF's history, following SA Sultan and Kazi Salahuddin, who held the post for four consecutive terms since 2008. With a record number of votes, Tabith's election signifies broad support for his leadership within the federation.

With a strong commitment to revitalizing football in Bangladesh, Tabith Awal's leadership has sparked optimism among players, coaches, and fans who are hopeful for progressive changes in the country’s football infrastructure and performance.
