PERTH NOV 24, (V7N)– India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed maturity beyond his years as he crafted an unbeaten century on Sunday, tightening India’s grip on the first Test against Australia.
The 22-year-old resumed day three just 10 runs shy of his fourth Test ton and brought up the milestone in style, launching a six off Josh Hazlewood to reach the landmark in 205 balls.
India stood at 197 without loss in their second innings during the early part of the first session, building a commanding lead of 243 runs. Jaiswal was unbeaten on 103, while KL Rahul provided solid support at the other end, batting on 74.
Jaiswal’s knock was nearly flawless, marked by patience and precision. His only moment of concern came when he was on 52, as Usman Khawaja dropped a difficult chance, allowing the young left-hander to continue his march.
This was Jaiswal’s first century on Australian soil and his fourth overall, achieved in just his 15th Test match.
Since his remarkable debut against the West Indies in 2023, where he scored 171, Jaiswal has become a vital fixture at the top of India’s batting lineup.
The southpaw averages over 56 in Tests, with a career-best unbeaten 214 against England to his name. His ability to adapt to challenging conditions and deliver under pressure has made him one of India’s most promising talents.
With a substantial lead already in hand and two full days remaining, India is firmly in control of the Perth Test. The partnership between Jaiswal and Rahul has set the stage for the visitors to push for a declaration and put Australia under immense pressure.
