Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) — Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in international cricket due to a faulty bowling action, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Sunday. This decision follows a similar ban imposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) just two days earlier.

In its official statement, the BCB confirmed that the ban applies to all forms of domestic and international cricket. Shakib, however, remains eligible to play as a batter.

"While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he will continue to play as a batter in all forms of domestic and international cricket," the BCB said. "The BCB is aware that Shakib will soon undergo a re-evaluation at an ICC-accredited testing centre in an attempt to validate his bowling action."

The ban stems from a county match in September when Shakib represented Surrey against Somerset. Despite taking nine wickets in the match, umpires raised concerns about his bowling action. Tests conducted at an England university revealed that Shakib's elbow bent more than the permitted 15 degrees while delivering the ball.

According to ICC regulations, a ban on bowling in domestic cricket by a national federation automatically extends to international cricket and other domestic leagues globally.

Shakib is currently playing in the Sri Lanka T10 League for Galle Marvels, where he batted but did not bowl in the recent match against Colombo Jaguars.

The ban comes during a challenging period for the former Bangladesh captain. Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Shakib has not returned to Bangladesh. Additionally, he is facing a murder case, which has kept him away from the national team.

Despite these setbacks, Shakib remains one of the world’s finest all-rounders. Cricket fans hope he will soon address the issues with his bowling action and return to his full potential.
