Italian forward Domenico Berardi's hopes of participating in Euro 2024 have been dashed following a season-ending Achilles injury sustained during Sassuolo's recent Serie A clash against Verona.

Sassuolo confirmed on Monday that medical examinations revealed a complete rupture of Berardi's Achilles tendon in his right leg.

The 29-year-old will undergo surgery on Tuesday, with the duration of his absence yet to be determined, as stated by his club.

Berardi, who has represented Italy with eight goals in 28 appearances, suffered the injury during his comeback match for Sassuolo after a two-month layoff.

Italy, drawn in Group B alongside Spain, Croatia, and Albania, will now have to navigate Euro 2024 without Berardi's presence. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 14 in Germany.
