Mumbai, Feb 15 (V7N) — The West Indies registered a dominant nine-wicket victory over Nepal in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, confirming their place in the Super Eights after securing three consecutive wins in Group C. The match was played at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
After winning the toss, West Indies opted to field first and immediately put Nepal under pressure. Opener Kushal Bhurtel fell in the opening over, triggering a top-order collapse. Nepal slipped to 23 for 4 within seven overs as their batting lineup struggled against disciplined bowling.
A fighting knock from Dipendra Singh Airee, who scored 58 off 47 balls, steadied the innings. Late contributions from Sompal Kami (26) helped Nepal recover to a respectable 133 for 7 at the end of 20 overs.
West Indies’ bowling attack was spearheaded by Jason Holder, who delivered an outstanding spell of 4 wickets for 27 runs in four overs. His performance dismantled Nepal’s middle order and earned him the Player of the Match award.
Chasing 134, West Indies never looked in trouble. Captain Shai Hope anchored the innings with an unbeaten 61 off 44 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer provided solid support with an unbeaten 46.
Earlier, Brandon King contributed a quick 22, setting the tone for a smooth chase as the Caribbeans reached the target comfortably with nine wickets in hand.
With this convincing win, West Indies advanced to the Super Eights stage from Group C, maintaining an unbeaten run and reinforcing their status as strong contenders in the tournament.
