Galle, June 18 (V7N) – Mushfiqur Rahim had hoped for a double century from Najmul Hossain Shanto, but the promising innings was cut short as Shanto was dismissed for 148 runs. He was caught by Angelo Mathews off the bowling of Asitha Fernando, ending a remarkable partnership worth 264 runs.
Shanto’s patient innings spanned 279 balls, featuring 15 fours and 1 six, showcasing solid technique and temperament. Despite the setback, Mushfiqur remains unbeaten on 119, steadfastly holding the crease alongside new batter Liton Das as Bangladesh continues their innings.
By the close of the fourth day’s morning session, Bangladesh’s score stood at 326 for 4 wickets, maintaining a strong position in the match.
Earlier, Bangladesh ended the first day on a high note with Mushfiqur and Shanto both reaching centuries, putting up 292 runs for 3 wickets. The duo resumed with an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 247 runs on day two, solidifying the team’s innings.
With the slow Galle pitch expected to become even more challenging as the match progresses, Bangladesh aims to post a big total to keep control of the game.
