Dhaka, June 19 (V7N) — Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has been retained by the Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming season of Australia’s domestic T20 league, the Big Bash, despite missing out on playing last season due to the board’s refusal to grant him a no-objection certificate (NOC).

The franchise confirmed the news through a social media post on Thursday (June 19).

Last season, Rishad was unable to participate because of a scheduling conflict between the Big Bash and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which prevented the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from issuing the NOC. However, this time, if the BCB grants the necessary clearance, Rishad will make his debut in the prestigious tournament.

Hobart Hurricanes were the champions of the last Big Bash season, and Rishad would become the second Bangladeshi cricketer to play in the league, after former Tigers captain and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

In addition to Rishad, ten other Bangladeshi cricketers have registered for the 15th edition of the Big Bash, including Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Tanjid Hasan Tamim, Sheikh Mehedi, Tanjim Hasan Shakib, Towhid Hridoy, Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Shamim Hossain, Taijul Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.

The 15th Big Bash season is expected to begin on December 21, 2025.
