Manager Julian Nagelsmann, 36, has unveiled a significantly altered Germany squad, bringing back 2014 World Cup winners Manuel Neuer and Toni Kroos while omitting 11 players from his previous selection last November.
Nagelsmann emphasized that the focus was on selecting players who fit best rather than simply choosing the best ones, highlighting the importance of momentum and injecting a fresh breeze into the team.
The upcoming fixtures for Nagelsmann's side include matches against France in Lyon on March 23 and the Netherlands in Frankfurt three days later, leading up to the Euros opener against Scotland on June 14 in Munich.
Germany's preparations for the tournament have been challenging, with a series of disappointing results following their group-stage exit in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, leading to the dismissal of coach Hansi Flick.
Several established players such as Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Mats Hummels, and Niklas Suele have been left out, while Leroy Sane's absence is due to suspension.
In a departure from reputation-based selections, Nagelsmann has included six newcomers, including players from this season's standout team Stuttgart, as well as other promising talents.
Notably, Neuer returns to the squad after a 15-month absence, with Nagelsmann suggesting Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen could challenge him for the goalkeeper position.
Despite Neuer's return, Ilkay Gundogan will continue as captain, retaining his role as a leader within the team.
Kroos, who last played for Germany in July 2021, returns after announcing his international comeback ahead of the Euros.
The squad features representation from various clubs, with only one player from Borussia Dortmund making the cut.
In total, the squad includes five Bayern players and three from Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
The Germany squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim), Bernd Leno (Fulham), Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona)
Defenders: Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstaedt (Stuttgart), David Raum, Benjamin Henrichs (Leipzig), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern), Robin Koch (Frankfurt), Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid), Jonathan Tah (Leverkusen)
Midfielders: Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic (Bayern), Robert Andrich, Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen), Chris Fuehrich (Stuttgart), Jan Niklas-Beste (Heidenheim), Pascal Gross (Brighton), Ilkay Gundogan (Barcelona), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
Forwards: Maximilian Beier (Hoffenheim), Niclas Fuellkrug (Dortmund), Kai Havertz (Arsenal), Thomas Mueller (Bayern), Deniz Undav (Stuttgart)
