Washington, DC, Dec 06 (V7N) — The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been officially completed at the Performing Arts Institute of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday. The 23rd edition of the tournament, featuring 48 teams in 12 groups of four, will kick off on June 11, 2026.
Argentina in Group G
Defending champions Argentina have been placed in Group G, where they will face:
- Austria
- Algeria
- Jordan
Reacting to the draw, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said,
"Austria are a good team and performed very well in the qualifiers. I know the head coach of Algeria well and understand their style — they play with great aggression. They will be tough opponents. To be honest, I don’t have a clear idea about Jordan."
Brazil in Group C
Five-time World Cup winners Brazil will play in Group C alongside:
- Morocco
- Scotland
- Haiti
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti gave his reaction after the draw:
"I think the world will see some beautiful matches. A draw is a draw — there is no such thing as an easy team or an easy group. Our goal is clear: we want to top the group and move to the next round."
Spain Drawn in Group H
Another tournament favorite, Spain, landed in Group H, paired with:
- Cape Verde
- Saudi Arabia
- Uruguay
The global football community is now gearing up for what promises to be one of the most competitive World Cups in history, with new teams, expanded groups, and wide anticipation for the June kickoff.
