DHAKA, Feb 14, (V7N) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the launch of the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20, marking the country’s first-ever franchise-based T20 competition for women.
The inaugural edition of the WBPL is scheduled to run from April 3 to April 15, the BCB Women’s Wing confirmed.
The tournament will feature three franchise teams, combining leading national players with emerging talent. Players will be selected through a draft system to ensure competitive balance and squad depth across all teams.
Franchises will also have the opportunity to sign overseas professionals, allowing international participation and raising the competitive standard of the tournament.
The WBPL Governing Council will be chaired by Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women’s Wing, and will oversee all organisational matters relating to the event.
This landmark initiative represents a major step forward in the professional development of women’s cricket in Bangladesh, giving players a platform to showcase their talent domestically and internationally.
