BARRANQUILLA, Feb 25,  (V7N) - FIFA President Gianni Infantino said Tuesday he was “very reassured” about Mexico’s hosting of World Cup matches, despite recent cartel violence in Guadalajara following the killing of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera.

“Everything’s good. It’s going to be spectacular,” Infantino told AFP in Barranquilla, Colombia, two days after cartel members rampaged across Mexico.

Mexico, along with the United States and Canada, will host the June 11–July 19 World Cup. Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco state, is set to stage four group matches and a playoff tournament in March.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured there was “no risk” to fans, while Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus ruled out removing Guadalajara from the host lineup.

The violence, which left at least 74 dead, also disrupted industry, with Honda suspending operations at its Guadalajara plant as a precaution. Mexico remains a major automotive hub, with Ford, GM, BMW, and Audi among manufacturers operating there.
