In a remarkable debut, Ghana’s Dreams FC clinched a semi-final berth in the CAF Confederation Cup, holding Stade Malien to a draw and advancing with an aggregate victory.

Dreams FC, the Ghanaian football club making waves in their first CAF competition, have etched their name in history by securing a place in the Confederation Cup semi-finals. Despite a tense 1-1 draw at home against the seasoned contenders Stade Malien, Dreams FC triumphed with a 3-2 aggregate score, thanks to their initial win in Bamako.

The second leg saw Stade Malien initially take the lead with Yoro Diaby’s goal, but Dreams FC’s Sylvester Simba quickly equalized, turning the tide with a crucial goal following a corner kick. The match was fraught with near misses, including a disallowed goal for Dreams FC and a close call when Agyenim Mensah’s attempt struck the post. Nevertheless, Dreams FC’s resilience paid off as they held firm to advance to the next round.

Their upcoming opponent is none other than Zamalek, the Egyptian powerhouse and former Confederation Cup champions. The semi-final showdown is set for two legs on April 21 and 28, with the opening match in Cairo.

Zamalek themselves secured a semi-final spot after drawing with Modern Future, edging out their compatriots with a 3-2 aggregate score in a nail-biting all-Egyptian quarter-final.

In other quarter-final action, Nigeria’s Rivers United will aim to protect their slim 1-0 lead against reigning champions USM Alger from Algeria. Meanwhile, Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane, twice winners of the Confederation Cup, will face Libya’s Abu Salim, hoping to build on their goalless draw in the first leg and clinch a victory at home.
